Mental Health Nurse Responsibilities
• Building relationships with clients and assessing their clinical and other needs
• Ensure medication is taken properly
• Planning nursing requirements
• Liaising with internal multi-disciplinary teams
• Updating client records
• Respond to distressed clients in a non-threatening manner and attempt to understand the source of their discomfort
• Help clients manage their emotions through de-escalation techniques
• Identify whether or when clients are at risk of harming themselves or others
• Obtain lab specimens
• Assist physicians with exams
• Schedule and arrange for special tests

Mental Health Nurse Requirements
• Diploma/Degree in nursing with a specialism in mental health or equivalent
• 2 years of practicing experience
• Full registration with the General Nursing Council of Zambia
• Excellent observational skills
• Outstanding communication skills
• Decision making and time management
• Emotional resilience and empathy
