A dwarf name generator is a type of legacy tool that can be added to any game that features dwarfs, such as RPG games. The generator will give players a random yet unique name for each dwarf character, adding a lot of depth to these otherwise single-use characters.
The culture of the Dwarves is something that's been written about throughout the entirety of their history. The first records about their culture and traditions date all the way back to when the Elves first ventured underground.
The Dwarves, or Khazad as they called themselves (after the name of their first king), we're a proud and tenacious race. They inhabited the mountains of Middle-earth throughout its history.
This industrious and brave race was created by Aulë in the twilight of Valinor sometime during the Years of the Trees before most other races had awakened.
The Seven Fathers of the Dwarves were born in seven caves in a great mountain range in Middle-earth. Over the course of millennia, not much has changed about them or their culture, as it was one of the most conservative Elven societies, and it remained unchanged even after they made contact with other races and began integrating into the rest of Elven society.

Name Examples For Dwarfs
Fantasy names can be a real pain to come up with. There are a million lists out there of cool names, but they don't really help you make up names for your fantasy characters.
Is your dwarf warrior nearly done leveling up?
Is your dwarf elf wizard seeking the rarest of ingredients for her next craft?
Or perhaps your dwarf pirate is looking to buy a new ship, take shore leave or just get drunk in the tavern. Whatever the case may be, you might need some name ideas for dwarves.
I already shared the dwarf name generator above; however, getting known names closer doesn't harm.
Female Name Examples for Dwarf
All dwarf names start with either 'a' or 'u', because they are short in stature.
The female dwarf names have an 'a' at the beginning because it is followed by a letter that lets you know if she has a dangerous profession, married to another dwarf, whether she is a shoemaker, linguist, potter, or another craftsman.
Lazuli
Lazuli is one of the most beautiful gemstones, actually. It is the second-rarest gemstone in the world, followed by Imperial Topaz.
The term Lazuli originated from the name of the location where such a gemstone was discovered in the 14th century, which was lapis lazuli in Latin.
Amethyst
This beautiful stone is a very rare stone and a symbol of peace and tranquility. The stone is available in several different colors: purple, pink, light purple, blue or green. It stands for the love of nature, honesty, and confidence.
Rarona
Rarona is a name that can be used for female dwarf characters. All race names are generated in the same way, similar to how you would probably think up human names.
A lot of the time there’s a base with some changes in the middle and suffixes at the end. Sometimes there are also prefixes at the beginning. So e.g…
“Rarona” is a good name because it has two “A” letters, which are uncommon in a lot of dwarven names and even rarer for them to be repeated twice in a row (the only other example being “Tathol“).
Bari
Bari refers to the state of being a woman designated to fight. These women are often unreachable and untouchable in a man’s world.
Their strength lies in their distinct identities, which are simultaneously feminine and muscular.
Many people have started channeling this idea by embracing the female form in all its uniqueness. Such artworks convey the voice of a society that speaks out against female oppression but also takes pleasure in celebrating the robustness of its creation.
Demeter
Her common surnames, Demetra and Ceres reflect the way in which her original worship was oriented toward "the mother earth", the sustenance of wild plants, and also the domesticated crops that later became a central element in Greek civilization.
An Athenian festival, Thesmophoria, was dedicated to Demeter and is described by Plutarch as a kind of potlatch involving the throwing of objects like bridal veils, sandals, and ox-hides into a fire.
Male Name Examples for Dwarf
In mythology, a dwarf is a being that dwells on the earth, especially underground. They are named for the plenty of Celtic descriptions, wicker, and euphemisms.
The word is now, for humans, the name of a race in Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasy and when used this way applies only to the gnomes. Aboveground they are often referred to as "little people," small people or mortals.
1.Gimli
Gimli is a dwarf name. Originally, it was one of the many surnames used by Dwarves. However, with the beginning of The Lord of The Rings trilogy, it became a very popular name for dwarfs.
Although, only Gimli son of Gloin, and his descendants are explicitly called by it.
It is still one of the names referred to as stone-dwarves in The Hobbit and other works related to The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien's fans.
2.Fafnir
Fafnir represents the common man turning into greed. It signifies the transformation from a good person to wanting everything and indulging your deepest desires in all things with no limits.
This can be anything from simple addictions like gambling, alcohol, or drugs to an addiction to greed.
3.Anvari
Not to be confused with the more common feminine name, Ava, (which also means light), the male version of this name has a different meaning. Men named Anvari are usually destined for great accomplishments and recognition.
4.Gidel
Gidel is a variant of Gidal. Gidel is an occupational name meaning giant or powerful warrior.
These occupation names are derived from the medieval occupation of the soldier, originally from the Latin word miles.
A soldier would have been a professional soldier, who served in the army and was often a horseman. It is taken to be given to a giant or powerful warrior.
5.Onofrio
It's pronounced as On-Froy. The first part (On) means "peace, famous, powerful". The second part (Froy) means "famous king, giant” and was popularized after the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II who lived during the 12th century.
6.Grumpy
Grumpy has been Doc’s nemesis since childhood. Even now, Grumpy lives in Doc’s house and eats his food.
And still complains about everything. You’re the designer and you know what I mean if you have someone with a similar set of complaints as your next-door neighbor – having to live with him.
7.Hannar
The name Hannar derives from the Old Norse word "Háinn," which means “skillful.” The name was originally used to refer to a god of sorcery and magic. It is rare today, with no more than five people in England and Wales using it in their name.
The name first became prominent in 1910 when it was used as a given name for a character from Tolkien's now-famous canon, Lord of the Rings.
8.Addanc
All the animals in the country became very afraid of him and went to their king – emperor dragon – to ask him for help.
He gave them small spears which they used against him when he came to drink water from the stream.
Addanc was mortally wounded (to our knowledge he didn't die). Dragon buried him under the river bank, covered with stones and trees.
Last Name Examples For Dwarf
Many dwarf clans have fascinating last names. These names can tell you where a dwarf's family originates, what occupation their ancestors were (or are), and even the temperament of the dwarf in question.
1.Ironbreaker
In the dark recesses of the world, in its deepest caverns, there do live a rather humorless race known as dwarves.
These are not your typical jovial bearded fellows with bellies full of ale. No, they are hewers of stone and miners of precious metals.
They are known for their strength and craftsmanship. Their bones are exceedingly strong due to their vigorous physical lifestyle.
They spar constantly with each other, constantly honing their skills with axes and hammers. If you were to strike one on the arm it would likely feel like trying to break iron.
2.Bloodminer
When it comes to dwarf warriors, you can’t beat Bloodminer. He’s a natural leader and is key to keeping the shield wall together. In battle, he uses his magma hammer to smash his foes into a fine paste.
His armor is ancient and battered. He wears an iron band across his forehead inscribed with runes of bad luck. A red beard descends to his waist.
When he enters battle he smears himself with dung so that his enemies will have no honor in killing him...
Dwarf Subraces
Like humans, dwarves are also multitudinous in their diversity and thus have a vast array of subraces that can be applied to them in your exploration of running games set in the Forgotten Realms setting or using more general Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition.
For now, the dwarf name generator is not separated with subraces, if it demands from you, I will happily develop this feature.
Arctic dwarves
Over the years, many people assumed that the arctic dwarves were simply some variety of shield dwarf or even mountain dwarves.
However, true arctic dwarves were very different from other dwarves in Faerûn.
Physiologically, they were significantly larger (standing roughly the same height as humans and hill giants) with longer limbs and what could only be described as a lion’s mane for hair.
They also possessed scruffier facial hair than any other Stout Folk subrace.
Their culture was equally unique; property and wealth meant little to them beyond their immediate needs.
They had nothing against hoarding treasure like any other dwarves; they just had no use for gold coins or gems.
Gold Dwarves
The physical characteristics of gold dwarves include their pointy ears and blonde hair, which is almost always braided into long dreadlocks.
They have often trained specifically to battle the horrendous aberrations that were known to come from the Underdark, although this has not been widely employed since many gold dwarves prefer not to mingle with their shield dwarf cousins (iron dwarves).
Shield Dwarves
They got their name from their hereditary task to guard the personal and family wealth of every dwarf clan. By tradition, shield dwarves were only allowed to marry fellow shield dwarves.
Mountain dwarven runesmiths crafted many magical items for other races and were among the best armorers in Faerûn.
They were shorter and broader than gold dwarves, their skin being a deep ruddy brown instead of golden.
Gray Dwarves
Duergar were rarely tall, standing rarely more than 4½ feet in height, though they frequently weighed over 200 pounds.
This stocky build leaned towards being fat rather than muscle, though their endurance was legendary, even among dwarves.
Like other dwarves, they had long, tapering ears that aided in the hearing of the slightest sound. Unlike other dwarves, their eyes were typically a solid gray until old age gave them cataracts.
Urdunnir dwarves
The Urdunnirin was a long-forgotten offshoot of the dwarves. Their name meant "ore cutter" in the urdunnir dialect of Dwarvish.
Though their height never exceeded that of a full-blooded dwarf, they were expert craftsmen and known to be quite intelligent and possessed of a fierceness that matched that of the illithids.
Although few records exist, it is said that the Urdunnirin made numerous expeditions to Faerûn seeking out ore deposits and found many within what is now the Flaming Deeps on Anauroch.
Wild dwarves
Jungle Hold was once much more than just a humble trading outpost, the Dwarfs lived well off of the natural resources the tropical forests provided for them.
However, at one point jungles began to shrink around them and the Dwarfs found their way of life threatened by worsening conditions, this led them to abandon Wildreach and preserve their culture in the hotter climes of Goblin Gate in the Valley of Zharr, where surprisingly they made contact with their distant cousins there.
Dwarfs 101
Dwarfs are a short humanoid race. They are generally 4 feet to 5 feet tall.
In terms of appearance, they exhibit a range of features that resemble those found among the human ethnic groups of northeast Faerûn; specifically, the shield dwarves, though males have thick beards and females frequently have long hair, both unlike any counterpart, human ethnic group.
Lifetime
There's a lot of discussion about the typical lifespan of dwarves in Tolkien's world. Basically, you have two different types of sources and both contradict each other.
The Hobbit states dwarves live longer than humans (by 70 years) and the Lord of the Rings trilogy usually says they live shorter than humans (with very few reaching or over 100 years old).
Nature
They were notoriously hard workers, but they were also among the most skilled craftsmen in all of Toril.
From fine jewelry and weapons to works of amazing craftsmanship that served as functional pieces of art, dwarves were justly famous for their artisanship.
Dwarven smiths were especially well known for their ability to create magnificent and magical arms and armor from gems and metals found deep within the earth, allowing them to fashion superior weapons far better than those made by any other race.
Capacities
They were a tough race, they were stout and strong-willed. Most of the time dwarves were difficult to like and lacked the charm of many other smaller races, such as halflings or gnomes, though this was not a trait common to all dwarves and some possessed a great deal of charismatic power.
Dwarves were however a hardy bunch so even those who are not charming have proven to be incredibly useful allies to have around.
They also excelled at mining, crafting, and smithing, so they made great companions for adventures that involved delving deep into mines or hunting down ancient treasures.
Mother Country
Dwarves generally preferred living in settlements built around their mines or other types of works that provided a steady source of income for their families.
Because of their shorter stature, they built homes closer to the ground than humans did and also built burrows into the side of mountains to create space for individuals or families.
The Past
Like many races, the exact origins of the dwarves were lost in myth and legend.
The Dwarves claim that their ancestors came from deep below Toril (perhaps around 14,000 years ago based on the “Age of Might”), and have been trapped in what is now known as Shanatar for thousands of years.
They were freed by Moradin to help defend the mines of Sarphil against a red dragon, Thauglorimorgorus. This story is corroborated by one similar among other races, regarding their ancient origins far from modern civilization.
