LARRY REICH AWARD (BALTIMORE)

Co-sponsored by the Neighborhood Design Center and the Baltimore City Department of Planning, The Larry Reich Award is given annually to an individual whose volunteer and professional work exemplifies a special commitment to community-based planning and design. This recognition, accompanied by a $1,000 cash award, was established by colleagues of long-time Baltimore City Planning Director Larry Reich to commemorate his pioneering concern for inclusion of grassroots groups in neighborhood initiatives. Larry Reich was Planning Director from 1965-1990 and was a central figure in the City’s Downtown Renaissance.

Awardees shall demonstrate:
1. an equitable, comprehensive outreach strategy that captures a wide range of different perspectives of community voice,
2. a consensus building process that prioritizes community perspectives in the design process, and
3. a high level of design excellence resulting from the community planning process that honors both the community planning process and the urban design legacy of Larry Reich.
